RULES & REGULATIONS FOR AVHS PTSA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Amador Valley High School Parent-Teacher-Student Association is proud to offer two types of scholarships for qualified students:
1)    A merit based scholarship that takes into account an applicant’s overall achievements. Included are GPA, test scores, extracurricular activities, volunteerism, and a personal essay.

2)    A community service-based scholarship.  This scholarship puts a great deal of emphasis on the applicant’s contributions to his or her community and also includes a personal essay.

PTSA Scholarship Rules and Guidelines:

Students may apply for both types of scholarships, but may only win one of them.

Students must be seniors at AVHS and must be PTSA Members to apply. (NOTE: If you haven’t yet applied for membership, it’s not too late. Just include your membership fee with your application. If you are the first person in your family to apply for membership this year, PTSA membership dues are $15.  If someone in your family is already a PTSA members, the dues are $5 for any add’l members.)

Each scholarship winner will be awarded $500 to use toward a university or community college. The applications are read and scored by a panel of PTSA member volunteers in a “blind” format, i.e., the names of the applicants are never shown to the panel, and a panel member may not be the parent or guardian of a student who is applying.

The due date for both scholarships is generally sometime in April.

Winners will be honored with a certificate and a scholarship check on Senior Scholarship Night in early June, 2012.

The 2011-2012 scholarship applications will be available in Spring. Watch this space, as well as the Amador Valley Express, for announcements. The applications will be available on this webiste. For more information, email PTSA Scholarship Committee Chair Jennifer Shreve at jenjs@comcast.net.
