Volunteer Activities Descriptions


  • Walk-Through Registration: Help for one or more shifts in August at  the PTSA table (selling PE & spirit clothes, collecting forms for directory, athletic passes, CASA); assisting the Amador staff (collecting school forms, welcoming students & parents to registration, etc.) or w/school photos
  • School & PTSA Mailings: Fold, stuff, and address AVHS and PTSA letters and fundraising information to the parent population.  (Usually done one morning from 9-12.)
  • Back to school night: Pass out schedules and maps to parents who need a copy of their student’s schedule. (Distribute forms in front of small Gym from 6-7 PM.)
  • Donate Baked Goods or Beverage: Provide homemade or purchased desserts for staff or new student luncheon, awards assemblies, school events, custodial staff, etc. Bring to AVHS prior to event.
  • Proof & Mail Student Directory: Proofread names, address and phone numbers in the hard copy version of the student directory before it “goes to press” (generally takes 3-4 hours.)  A second morning will be needed to address and sort directories for mailing after they have been printed.
  • Pigskin Roast: This is a fun and festive annual event.  The Booster Club hosts this annual event that includes a BBQ dinner before the varsity game.  AV clubs and sports teams sell spirit wear and other items to support their programs and activities.  This not-to-be missed event is fun for the entire family!  Help needed for set-up, food prep, cooking, selling dinner tickets, and clean-up after the event. 
  • Coffee with the Principal: Provide refreshments in your home or at the school for this casual, informative get-together with parents.  (Principal Coffees are scheduled in the Fall, Winter and Spring)
  • Reflections Program: An arts recognition and achievement program that encourages students to express themselves creatively.  This year’s theme was: "Together We Can." Categories include photography, visual arts, literature, musical composition, dance choreography, and film/video production.  Help needed to advertise and promote the event to students and with set-up and clean-up at the Reflections ceremony in November.
  • UC/CSU Application Night: Greet parents & students and hand out forms.  (Held on two separate nights.)
  • Junior College Night: Welcome and parents students, hand out information packets at the college night (Approximately 6-7 PM)
  • Holiday Food & Gift Baskets:  Help assemble holiday food baskets for AV families in crisis (Thanksgiving & Christmas) and help wrap holiday gifts in December.  (AV administrators will distribute to deserving families.)
  • Spring Art Fair: Help needed to display artwork and ceramics in the library for the student art fair (3-6 PM the day before event.)  Parents also needed to monitor students during art fair, (to discourage touching artwork) during school hours, and to help take down artwork on Friday when fair concludes.
  • AP Registration: Help students pre-register for AP tests. Usually done during the day in the MPR or library.
  • Assemble next year’s packets: Help for one shift to assemble the information packets for next August’s Walk-Through Registration. Usually done in one day from 8 AM – 3 PM.
  • Work Coat Check for dances: Collect student’s coats, purses, etc. in the coat-check room during dances. Hours are usually 8-11:30 PM on Friday nights.
  • Special Olympics: The AVHS Athletic Booster Club hosts Special Olympics tournaments in April (basketball) and May (track & field, and volleyball.  Need timekeepers, scorekeepers, set-up, clean-up, & to cheer athletes
  • Scholarship application distribution:  Help one afternoon every other week in counseling office assembling and distributing scholarship applications for seniors
  • Office Help: On an as needed basis; assist the office staff with mailings, copying, filing or other office related needs.  Most jobs will last no longer than a few hours, generally in the morning.
  • Senior Activities: Seniors' parents organize the Senior Breakfast, BBQ & Grad Night activities
